What Trick loves about the forest…

Trick, Year 3
Mount Gambier North Primary School

2025 Primary School Category Winner

I like the pine forest because it is right in my backyard. It is fun and full of surprises. The forest gives us life and there are lots of animals that live there, and if you are really quiet you might see kangaroos or lizards. Sometimes its hard to spot them, but that makes it exciting. I like to explore and use my imagination, because the forest feels like an adventure every time. I look for mushrooms and other interesting things on the ground. Once I even found a pine cone as big as my head! The forest also gives people jobs, like looking after the trees and keeping the forest healthy. That’s why I think the pines are a special place.

OneFortyOne acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their deep connections to land, water, and community. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations people today.

In Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori communities have a strong spiritual connection between people and the land – the wellbeing of one sustains the wellbeing of the other. We strive to build meaningful relationships with iwi as tangata whenua (people of the land/region), to be responsible intergenerational kaitiaki (stewards/guardians) of the land where our forests grow.
