Why Patrick loves the forest…

Why Patrick loves the forest…

Patrick, Reception
Newbery Park Primary School

When I used to get sick all the time, I had to stay away from all my friends and my childcare and kindy until the special doctors could work out what was wrong with me. Mum and Dad would take me on adventures to go exploring the forests all the time. Sometimes I would take one of my RC Cars and drive it along little tracks I found.

Sometimes I would sit really really quietly with Mum, and listen for animals and birds. We even saw kangaroos one time, and heard one doing big jumps. I’m nearly all better now, and I can go to school now but I still ask Mum and Dad to take me on adventures to the forests. It makes me feel happy when I go there.

(Patrick’s story as told to his Mum.)

OneFortyOne acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their deep connections to land, water, and community. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations people today.

In Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori communities have a strong spiritual connection between people and the land – the wellbeing of one sustains the wellbeing of the other. We strive to build meaningful relationships with iwi as tangata whenua (people of the land/region), to be responsible intergenerational kaitiaki (stewards/guardians) of the land where our forests grow.
