OneFortyOne, Tenison Woods College and Noel Barr Toyota are together strengthening their partnerships, for this year’s National Schools Tree Day on Friday 26 July.

Tenison Woods College students are excited to ‘get their hands dirty’ and plant trees in OneFortyOne’s local pine forest plantations. This event raises awareness of a sustainable future, giving students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local forestry industry, with a hands-on approach to mark the importance of this event. This year local native plants will also be planted, to better represent both the importance of native trees, but to honour the importance of the local forestry industry within our community and being a sustainable resource into the future.

Principal David Mezinec comments “This event was so well received by students last year, and they are very excited to take part again in 2019. We are very fortunate to have this wonderful partnership with OneFortyOne and Noel Barr Toyota, to not only give our students a real-world experience where they can actively participate, but to incorporate their learnings into positive sustainable choices for their future.”

Local Toyota Dealership, Noel Barr Toyota is represented through the National partnership, but at a local level, supporting students by providing them with Tree Day Shirts and Gloves. Sales manager at Noel Barr Toyota, Adam Salmon comments, “Noel Barr Toyota has a long-standing association with National Tree Day and is proud to continue to partner with Tenison Woods College & OneFortyOne. It’s always a fantastic day that gives the Students of Tenison Woods College the opportunity to work together to contribute positively to create a better environment for future generations while connecting with nature. The day also aligns positively to Toyota’s corporate goal of achieving a sustainable future via a zero environmental impact by the year 2050.”

Whilst OneFortyOne protects over 3,000 hectares of native forest patches within its commercial pine estate, the team wanted to teach the children that the Green Triangle forests not only protect the environment, but they also store carbon, provide local jobs, are a really great place to find a ghost mushroom and generally just reconnect with nature.

OneFortyOne Pioneer, Linda Cotterill said “Sustainable forestry has been the backbone of the Green Triangle for 100 years, and we want to help inspire the next generation of trailblazers to feel the same passion about this industry as we do, keeping it sustainable for the next 100 years.

Wouldn’t it be great if some of the students out there replanting today, start thinking about a local career in forestry, and become a future leader of OneFortyOne?”

Schools Tree Day is in line with Planet Ark and Toyota’s National Trees Day. If you would like to get involved in National Tree Day, please visit the website https://treeday.planetark.org/get-involved/community
