Business Intelligence Technical Specialist

The Role

We have an opportunity for a Business Intelligence Technical Specialist to deliver company-wide business intelligence, data and analytics solutions. Reporting to the Business Process and Applications Manager, you will strengthen data governance, improve access to trusted information and enable informed decision-making through the effective use of approved technologies and resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain an Enterprise Data Management Framework covering data ownership, quality, security, risk and compliance.
• Document data governance roles, responsibilities and stewardship arrangements to support clear accountability.
• Contribute to the business intelligence roadmap and deliver agreed initiatives aligned with the Technology Investment 5-year Plan.
• Document the current BI landscape, including data flows, system dependencies, reporting processes and data mappings.
• Assess and document new and enhanced reporting requirements for review, prioritisation and endorsement.
• Design, develop, configure and test approved technology solutions, and support implementation, training, documentation and ongoing use.
• Partner with stakeholders to deliver consistent reporting solutions using standard formats, templates and guiding principles.
• Work with project managers and stakeholders to track progress, risks and mitigation strategies, delivering initiatives within cost, time, scope and specification.
• Continuously improve technology approaches, processes and workflows in response to evolving business needs and industry trends.

Key Skills/Requirements:

• At least 3 years’ practical experience in a similar role, preferably within a medium to large organisation or comparable industry.
• Strong Power BI development experience, including data modelling, DAX, Power Query, report optimisation, security design and Power BI Service administration.
• Experience in SQL development, database management, data warehousing, database design and cloud-based analytics platforms.
• Experience designing and supporting ETL/ELT processes, data integrations, APIs and enterprise data pipelines.
• Ability to turn complex data into meaningful business insights through dashboards, reports and analytics solutions.
• Current knowledge of data governance, data quality, data privacy regulations and information management principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams, manage competing priorities and maintain effective remote working relationships.
• Project management experience coordinating small- to medium-scale projects and multiple concurrent deliverables.
• A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience is desirable; experience with Operational Technology systems, GIS data or mapping technologies will also be well regarded.
