Harvesting Forester

Harvesting Foresters are in charge of coordinating harvesting contractor crews during the thinning stages (T1, 2, & 3) and the clearfell stage of plantation rotation. They ensure the health and safety of employees and contractors as well as establishing signage at all access points, as to protect the public from entering into an active site. A radio channel is established that all operators need to use on site to alert others of their whereabouts. Roads are established if required for trucks and machinery to access a site, and traffic is directed in the correct direction.

Harvesting Foresters work closely with marketing, as the amount of wood they cut is determined by customer demand. If there is low demand, Harvesting Foresters will decrease harvesting levels and leave the tree on the stump to continue growing. This will actually increase the amount of volume from a tree that is able to be used for timber products; hence, increasing value of log. When there is high demand, Harvesting Foresters will increase the rate of which a clearfell-age plantation is harvested, ordering more trucks to collect product and deliver to customers.

OneFortyOne acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their deep connections to land, water, and community. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations people today.

In Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori communities have a strong spiritual connection between people and the land – the wellbeing of one sustains the wellbeing of the other. We strive to build meaningful relationships with iwi as tangata whenua (people of the land/region), to be responsible intergenerational kaitiaki (stewards/guardians) of the land where our forests grow.
