Why Levi loves the forest…

Levi, Year 7
Tenison Woods College, Poplars Middle School

Our farm is fully surrounded by OFO pines and I love exploring the forest with my mum and dad. I am always spending time riding my mountain bike in there and also using the four wheeler to check our boundary fences for any trees that might be down. Its great watching the Robbie helicopter spinning around over our fence to touch down on the break to fill up with spray.

I have no trouble finding a new favorite stick to bring home whenever I go bush bashing on a walk in the pines. I love walking along roo pads to see if I can ever find any sleeping during the day. Dad always points out the Red Tail Black cockatoos whenever they fly over making their soft cheep calls rather than squawking and screaming like the yellow tails.

I like driving through the breaks as its fun spending time doing that with mum and dad. We always find something to stop and look at. We always see Emu chicks, joeys, echidnas and snakes. I don’t like pollen season as everything gets covered in yellow dust and then turns into green slimy sludge when wet.

OneFortyOne acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their deep connections to land, water, and community. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations people today.

In Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori communities have a strong spiritual connection between people and the land – the wellbeing of one sustains the wellbeing of the other. We strive to build meaningful relationships with iwi as tangata whenua (people of the land/region), to be responsible intergenerational kaitiaki (stewards/guardians) of the land where our forests grow.
