In November 2023, the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry published a discussion paper and invited submissions from industry to help them develop an Agriculture and Land Sectoral Plan, as part of Australia’s overall plan to transition to a net zero economy by 2050.

OneFortyOne submitted a response to the Department in December 2023. In it we outlined our belief that responsibly managed plantation forests, such as those operated by OneFortyOne, have a vital and immediate role to play in supporting Australia’s Net Zero transition. We reiterated the significant contribution forestry is already making as a net sink of carbon dioxide, highlighted ways in which the Agriculture and Land Sectoral Plan can support its expansion and identified areas in which our industry might work in partnership with other industries and government to reduce Australia’s emissions.

Our submission can be read in full here.

OneFortyOne acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their deep connections to land, water, and community. We pay our respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations people today.

In Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori communities have a strong spiritual connection between people and the land – the wellbeing of one sustains the wellbeing of the other. We strive to build meaningful relationships with iwi as tangata whenua (people of the land/region), to be responsible intergenerational kaitiaki (stewards/guardians) of the land where our forests grow.
