OneFortyOne backs new Aussie timber campaign

OneFortyOne is thrilled to support the Australian Forest Products Association’s recent campaign, encouraging Australians to buy Aussie timber first.

The “Buy Aussie Timber First” campaign has seen the Australian timber industry come together to give voice to this message which, along with OneFortyOne, also includes AKD Softwoods, Boral, Hyne Timber, Timberlink Australia and Wespine Industries.

Like many other Australian industries, timber faces an uphill battle during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic has caused a significant forecast reduction in new home construction and associated renewable timber framing product demand. With this comes pressure on Australian timber product manufacturing jobs and people’s livelihoods.

OneFortyOne General Manager – Sales and Marketing Mike Bloomfield says that the Buy Aussie Timber First campaign demonstrates why Australian timber should be the first choice for timber framing.

“Australian timber is durable, renewable, responsibly sourced and it also stores carbon,” he said. “Buying Australian timber at any time, but especially during periods of economic recovery is critical support for regional employment.”

“The new campaign focuses on why buying Australian timber framing is so important in this economic climate, as it supports jobs in manufacturing and the timber supply chain’s post-pandemic recovery.”

“This campaign builds on the successful ‘Timber Framing – The Ultimate Renewable’ campaign which OneFortyOne also strongly supported.

To help boost the Buy Aussie Timber First message, OneFortyOne is undertaking its own advertising campaign in industry publications which highlights the benefits to both Australian jobs and the environment from buying locally-produced timber.

Mr Bloomfield said the new campaign was an example of the industry working tirelessly during the COVID-19 economic recovery to stave off a downturn.

This also follows the Federal Government’s recent announcement of $25,000 cash grants for prospective new home builders and those undertaking substantial renovations to help the housing construction industry in its recovery from the pandemic.

“This is a great example of the government and industry working to together to bolster both the timber and housing industries and regional employment during a very difficult time,” Mr Bloomfield said.

“The new campaign carries a very pertinent message on why it is so important to buy Australian timber which goes right across the supply chain to fabricators, builders and consumers.”
