Account Manager Craig Morgan has always had a passion for cars. At 16 years old and determined to save for his first car, he left school and started working in a Mitre 10 store.

That determination evolved into a 20-year career.

“I left school when I was sixteen. Mitre 10 was my first job, so I could save money to buy my first car.
I ended up running a timber yard there for about 7 ½ years before I left and went to what was then called Pine Solutions Australia.

I stayed at PSA until Carter Holt Harvey bought them, then I made the step up to Account Management for Bunnings Vendor refill.

At the end of 2017, I was seconded to join a small team that would go on to start OneFortyOne.

This was the highlight of my working career, being in the first five that laid the groundwork for the new business. It was extremely satisfying to watch everyone come across from Carter’s, turn on their new computers on the Monday morning, and basically take up where they left off. That was a proud moment and a huge achievement.

Needless to say, I got that first car – it was a 1972 Holden HQ Premier V8. I wish I still had it today as they are worth quite a bit of money.

When I got married 18 years ago, I sold my car and did the family thing. My greatest personal achievement is my family. I have 6 children which keep me busy – my youngest is 2.5 years and the oldest is 17.

Workwise, I’m still in Account Management based in Box Hill and still thoroughly enjoy what I do. It’s up to us to make sure that we keep the order bank full and in line with our expected production for the month. We do that by managing customer expectations and the orders from the time they are placed through to despatch.

I love the interaction with the customers, I’m a social person in that respect. It’s been challenging to not have that face-to-face interaction over the past couple of years, but we are starting to re-establish those in person connections.

What’s kept my interest over the past 20 years is that the business is constantly developing.

The best part is the comradery within our group, it’s unparalleled. It is awesome. Our team keeps developing as we strive to find better ways of doing things and try to improve in everything that we do.

I enjoy the challenge; I enjoy the people I work with, and I enjoy the customers.

A word of wisdom – keep an open mind and listen to the sage advice you’re given from the people that have been around. Soak it up like a sponge.

Cars are still my passion. I am a Holden man through and through, you were either Holden or Ford back in my day – I have always loved that rivalry. I have recently bought another Holden V8 SS and my two sons are helping me make it my own. Both love cars and so soon it’ll be time for them to start their journey and save for their own..!”
