We are committed to being world class. Reporting to the Estate Manager, the Forest Research Manager will be responsible for translating research into outcomes which will drive the continual improvement of forestry management practices.

You will be actively involved in industry-wide collaboration, creating a strategic alliance with the newly established Forestry Research Hub in Mount Gambier, to leverage outcomes and develop value-adding opportunities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing the strategic direction and provide the day-to-day management of agreed scientific research programs
  • Providing authoritative and strategic advice on complex, emerging or sensitive issues relating to research and forest health.
  • Fostering collaboration with existing and deliver new relationships with key stakeholders
  • Developing technical and practical guidelines for research programs while encouraging an innovative approach

Experience and requirements
To be successful in this role, the candidate must have an appropriate degree with 10+ years demonstrated experience in:

  • Developing scientific research programs with clear measurable objectives
  • Providing strategic analysis and advice
  • Stakeholder management

In this key role, you will report to the Operational Planning Manager, and be accountable for the planning and preparation of operational plans and harvesting schedules. You have a lead role in improving workplace health and safety, will champion environmental best practice and preferably be able to design and construct forest roads. Working in a dedicated team you will work collaboratively with colleagues and community and have an ability to form strong working relationships with contractors.

Key responsibilities:

  • Timely preparation of harvest plans with close liaison and consultation with all relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all harvesting and roading operations are made aware of and meet our commitment to protecting the environment and uncompromising legal compliance framework.
  • Forward plan a full range of thinnings and clearfall operations and contribute to operational and tactical harvest schedules.
  • Coordinate the design, construction, and maintenance of our forest road and quarry network.
  • Be a champion for safety in all facets of your work.
  • Make and form strong lasting relationships with colleagues and be a part of a successful team.

Experience and requirements
To be successful in this role, the candidate must have sound practical experience in planning forestry operations, excellent relationship and time management skills and a strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental standards. An appropriate qualification is preferred.

In safety and risk this means building a shared culture and behaviours that are positive and team based using systems are resilient and rigorous. To accelerate progress towards this goal we have created a new position in our Risk and Sustainability team, the HSE Business partner.

Reporting to the Risk and Sustainability Manager, you will partner with internal staff and contractors to drive the implementation of our safety strategy and promote positive cultural change. You will also play an important role implementing and maintaining our Forest Certification accreditation and management system. Your leadership, energy and technical skills will underpin your success in implementing a transformative strategy and maximising business objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support and promote organisational change to drive a positive behavioural based safety culture
  • Provide expert advice in the areas of incident management, risk management and other relevant WHSE technical matters
  • Assist with the Sustainable Wood forest certification process including audit preparation, execution and action management

To be successful in this role you will have a relevant qualification with extensive experience in advising and supporting leaders on Risk and Safety in large or complex business teamed with well-developed communication skills.
